Parents can be an important tool to support their children.

General

Look through your child’s communication book regularly
Sign the communication book on a weekly basis to ensure effective communication between the school and the home
Contact the relevant Progress Leader if you have an enquiry or concern
Ensure that your child has the necessary equipment for each of his/her lessons
Ensure that your child has a suitable place to work at home
Look through your child’s books regularly
Ask your child what he/she has learned in school
Discuss academic development with your child
Discuss time management strategies with your child
Discuss career prospects with your child
Remember to praise your child’s success and progress
Control and monitor your child’s use of the internet

Revision

Encourage your child to attend any extra sessions e.g. after school revision sessions
Search relevant websites e.g. WJEC/GCSE Bitesize to find extra revision resources that supports the learning that happens in school
Establish an agreed revision timetable. Shorter periods of revision are more effective than longer periods i.e. periods of 20 minutes are better than a period of 2 hours
Discuss the ‘big picture’ with your child
